The Story of Get Checked!
Get Checked! is Lung Cancer Europe’s main awareness campaign. Since 2021, it has helped people across Europe recognise the signs of lung cancer, get diagnosed earlier, and feel less alone after diagnosis.
Each year has a new focus, reflecting what people most need to know about lung cancer and how to take action.
Every campaign is created with support from Lung Cancer Europe’s member organisations, with materials translated into many European languages and shared through social media, videos, and printed resources.

Know the symptoms. Take action early.
Launched during Lung Cancer Awareness Month 2021, the first campaign focused on the symptoms and risk factors of lung cancer.
It encouraged people to see their doctor if something did not feel right and introduced the message that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer.
The aim was to break stigma and show that lung cancer can affect anyone, not just smokers or older adults.
Resources included posters, infographics and videos shared in more than 15 languages across Europe.

Challenge the myths. Change the conversation.
This campaign challenged the myths and stereotypes about lung cancer. It showed that lung cancer can affect people of any age, gender or nationality, and that it is not only a disease of older men or smokers.
The campaign shared photos, videos and stories from people living with lung cancer across Europe, helping to change how the disease is seen and understood. It built on the first year and highlighted that many people are diagnosed too late because they don’t realise they’re at risk.
